WORKCOVER RESTRUCTURING

On 2nd August, PSA/CPSU instigated a discussion within the Consultative Group related to staff who are displaced as a result of the Workplace Injury restructure. The Corporation had decided that vacancies arising from the restructure would be advertised both internally and externally simultaneously. PSA/CPSU sought agreement that internal applicants be considered before external applicants. This was supported by others within the Consultative Group and PSA/CPSU has now been advised that the Corporation has agreed to the proposal.

On 3 August, PSA/CPSU wrote to WorkCover management to raise members issues regarding the current round of restructuring. That letter (which was also copied to members) sought appropriate consultation prior to any future restructuring decisions being taken, details of areas targeted for restructuring (including the number of staff intended to be displaced), proper support for those who are displaced and that, in future, as a general principle, displaced staff be considered prior to outside advertising of vacancies.

In response, the Corporation has advised that:

A range of functions are being reviewed - among them the 58B/C Unit, the RISE function, the Complaints Resolution Unit and the Web Services function and the reviews are to be completed by the end of September. Until the reviews are completed, final numbers of staff that will be
displaced are unable to be determined.

The Corporation regards consultation seriously and will continue to make every effort to ensure that staff are appropriately consulted. The PSA and staff will be advised as to the outcomes of the reviews as soon as it is possible to do so.

The Corporation will continue to abide by the Certified Agreement provisions relating to redeployment. These include skill matching of displaced staff against vacancies.

The Corporation retains the right to advertise internally and externally at the same time.

PSA/CPSU, through the Consultative Group and independently, will continue to pursue members issues regarding restructuring and other matters at WorkCover.

The priority for PSA/CPSU is to support and assist affected members and ensure that issues are raised and addressed.
