As you would be aware you have 5 days Family Carers Leave available to you. This 5 days leave comes out of your own sick leave.

Earlier this year the SA Public Sector Salaried Employees Award was varied to include provisions which came from the Family Leave Test Case.  Whilst most provisions have been available in the public sector for some time, the Test Case did provide for 10 days Personal Leave (referred to in State Public Sector Industrial instruments as Family Carers Leave).

Public Sector Workforce Relations has now advised the PSA that all agencies have now been advised to make these additional days Personal Leave (Family Carer's Leave) available to their employees.

You now are able to access 10 days of your own sick leave in any one year to care for a sick family member.  This is in addition to Special Leave with Pay.
