The Treasurer today made a Ministerial Statement to Parliament regarding
public servant numbers.

The PSA is pleased to note the commitment that the number of public
servants employed by government is projected to be larger at 30 June
2010 than they it was on 30 June 2006.

The Treasurer also advised Parliament that while the staffing cap for
some agencies will go up, in others, it will be reduced. PSA is
concerned at the impact on services to the community and workloads for
members where staffing reductions occur. PSA, however, has no
information regarding agency staffing details and is seeking further
discussions with the Government regarding the announcement, particularly
in relation to the intended reductions.

A further report will be issued to members following an analysis of the
State Budget to be delivered on Thursday.
