SIGNIFICANT PAY INCREASES FOR PROFESSIONALS

For over 120 years the PSA have successfully represented Professionals employed by the South Australian Government.

The PSA have campaigned for several months to address the growing problem of recruiting and retaining Professionals in the Public Service.

After detailed and intense Enterprise Bargaining negotiations with the PSA, the State Government put forward an offer proposing a new salary structure for Professionals.

The new PO structure provides an improvement to all classifications of the previous PSO structure. Over the next three years the proposed adjustment will increase PSO1 pay by 15.42% and some classifications by 23.12%. These are significant increases, particularly when taking into account the current political climate (WorkChoices, PS Reviews).

Additionally, the negotiations have enabled South Australian Public Sector Professionals to obtain as good as, and in some cases, better salaries and conditions of employment as compared to other States.

The PSA has also been able to secure a new Professional structure that benefits all Professionals across the Public Sector, just not in health, as has occurred interstate where many Professionals were excluded.

The PSA conducted a range of workplace visits as well as a meeting of Worksite Reps where both Reps and members overwhelmingly voted to accept the proposal.

Consequently, based on membership support for the offer, the PSA Council determined to advise Government of PSA support for the EB 2006 offer.

The PSA will continue to negotiate with the Government to determine new work level definitions. Improved work level definitions have the potential to allow easier progression to higher classifications. To further the considerable improvements to your pay and conditions, it is imperative that all Professionals support the PSA's continuing efforts by joining the Union.
