PSA REFERS RADIOGRAPHERS DISPUTE TO THE INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

The PSA is currently in dispute with the South Australian Government's Department of Health (DOH).

The issue is the revoking by DOH of the reclassification of a number of Radiographer positions at the Flinders Medical Centre (FMC).

The reclassifications were approved through the normal processes and reflect the work value of the positions in accordance with the current classification criteria.

General Secretary Jan McMahon and Industrial Officers Simon Johnson and Ian Peak met with the Chief Executive Mr Tony Sherbon on Monday 30 October and Tuesday 31 October 2006 in an attempt to resolve the issue.

The PSA put the case that as a specific offer had been made to the radiographers that legally this stands and our members must be paid accordingly from the 11 September 2006.

As the DOH has not agreed the PSA has now referred the matter to the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia.

The PSA's view is that the reclassifications were revoked due to cost implications as the DOH was concerned about a flow on effect to other health units. The PSA states that these reclassifications as determined, were appropriate and that similar positions in other health units should also be reclassified.
