SBC MEETING EB 2006

Today, a Single Bargaining Centre (SBC) meeting was conducted to formally discuss the Government's new Wages Parity Agreement offer for salaried employees, to replace the existing arbitrated Award which expired on 30th September 2006.

The PSA was represented by General Secretary, Jan McMahon, Acting Chief Industrial Officer, Gayle Peak and PSA Industrial Officer, Simon Johnson.

Government representatives advised that it is their intention to commence a ballot of all affected employees on Friday 24th November 2006, and concluding Friday 8th December 2006 at 9.00am. The State Electoral Office has been engaged to oversee the process and it is anticipated that a result will be known on 8th December 2006.

As advised previously, PSA supports this offer as a result of overwhelming member endorsement.

Following further discussions with Government over recent days, the PSA is now satisfied that the work level definitions outlined in the new offer provide skills based managerial career paths for Professional members in the South Australian public sector.

At today's meeting the PSA requested Government to undertake all necessary preparations to ensure that if the ballot provides endorsement of the offer, the wages increase and other benefits will not be unduly delayed.

Clearly, convincing support for the Enterprise Agreement ought to provide an opportunity for the Government to proceed with an administrative payment to enable the new salary to take affect prior to certification.

The PSA looks forward to the opportunity for members to have their say on the new Enterprise Agreement, which provides a fair outcome for all members.
