2006 CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

The PSA continued to provide industrial representation for members in 2006, gaining significant achievements. Importantly, the PSA has secured a guarantee of job security from the Premier. Parity members will soon receive a wage increase from an Enterprise Agreement negotiated by the PSA which was overwhelmingly supported by members, and was a positive end to the year. The PSA also successfully negotiated agreements in higher education and is in discussions in other areas including Novita and Minda.

Public Sector employees gained some well earned recognition this year with the PSA's high profile “Protecting the Public Sector” Campaign, complete with TV and Billboard advertisements, winning the SA Union Best Campaign of 2006 Award.

2007 will hold many challenges, including Public Sector Reform and Shared Services. The Federal WorkChoices Legislation will still have an impact on PSA members, families, friends and the community, and the PSA will continue to fight these unfair laws. State legislation was passed recently to protect Health employees in the public sector from WorkChoices which the PSA lobbied for.

With a now extensive and expanding regional member phone and email network, the PSA continues to consult and represent members in regional South Australia.

The PSA has continued to provide a range of non-industrial benefits including the Ambassador Card, Legal Services Scheme, Journey Accident Cover, and Holiday Homes. The introduction of Discount Services for members with reduced price metrotickets and grocery cards, has been an outstanding success and one of the PSA's most popular initiatives to date.

With extensive industrial expertise and access to legal and academic resources, the PSA will continue to protect members' interests. 2006 has been an eventful year and the PSA looks forward to continuing to work with you in 2007. Best wishes for the festive season.
