FORESTRY ENTERPRISE BARGAINING

The first Enterprise Bargaining meeting was held at Mt Gambier on Thursday 15 February 2007. PSA Industrial Officer Ian Peak attended on behalf of PSA members. It was agreed that minutes would be sent by email to all Forestry SA employees to keep them up to date with the process.

Management Representatives, David Fuss and Raz Di Carlo reported that they had a meeting the previous day (Wednesday 14 February 2007) with Industrial Representatives in the Department of Premier and Cabinet as the ICCC Industrial. From this they advised they were not yet in a position to make an offer.

The PSA salary claim for our members is 15% over 3 years, ie 5% per annum with the first pay increase from the 1 October 2006.

The Government offered 3.5% per annum to Government Sector employees last year, which was accepted by PSA members and then government employees at ballot. government Sector employees recently received their first 3.5% pay increase back paid to the 1 October 2006.

The PSA representative put it to management that a 3.5% interim pay increase back dated to 1 October 2006 could be paid immediately.

Any offer from government will need to be approved by the PSA members prior to a draft agreement being voted on.

There is some technical complexity in ensuring that any agreement not provide less protection than that offered to State Government Sector employees.

There will be a working party looking at the content of the agreement meeting at 10.00 am Thursday 22 February 2007, and the next day Friday 23 February, at 10.00 am the Enterprise Bargaining meeting.

Currently the PSA does not have any formal Worksite Representatives. Ideally their could be Worksite Representatives for each worksite. To be a representative or a proxy on the Enterprise Bargaining process does not require a member to be a Worksite Representative. Forestry SA management is fully supportive of PSA members being involved in the Enterprise Bargaining meetings and processes.
