DISPUTE REGARDING CLASSIFICATION OF PROFESSIONALS

The PSA has written to the State Library of South Australia Director over concerns that Professional positions in the SLSA are increasingly being advertised in the ASO stream instead of the PO stream. The advertising of an Archival Processor Officer Position in the weekend paper as an ASO4 position highlighted this issue.

The Public Sector Salaried Employee's Interim Award, Schedule 3, clearly lists Archivists and Librarians as falling within the Professional Stream. Given the new structure contained in the South Australian Government Wages (Salaried) Enterprise Agreement 2006 was intended to provide recruitment and retention incentives for professionals, it is imperative that SLSA professions are appropriately classified and remunerated.

The PSA letter notifies the Director of a dispute regarding the lack of consultation in relation to the change in classification of the Archival Processing Officer Position, and calls for;

  • The withdrawal of the advertised vacancy pending appropriate consultation with the PSA and SLSA staff, in accordance with maintaining the status quo under the Grievance and Dispute provisions of the Enterprise Agreement.

  • Consultation to occur regarding future vacancies where the classification of the position may change.

  • All Archivist and Librarian positions to be assessed according to the new Work Level Definitions contained in the Enterprise Agreement to ensure SLSA employees are paid at the correct classification level and stream. This would ensure the obligation of the employer to ensure employees are remunerated appropriately is met.

The PSA will keep members informed of any response received from SLSA Management.
