PROPOSED SECURITY FOR DFC CONNECTED SERVICES CENTRE IN MT GAMBIER

On Wednesday 29 August 2007, PSA officers met with: Natalie Hamood, Director Human Resources; Glenn Brown, Regional Manager; Peter Bull, Director Organisational Development; and Graham Field, an independent security consultant, to discuss the latest developments in planning the security for DFC Connected Services Centre in Mount Gambier.

The PSA was represented by Ian Peak, Acting Chief Industrial Officer, and Andy Alcock, OHS&W Industrial Officer. Andrea Newton, Worksite Representatives of Housing SA in Mt Gambier was also involved via a teleconference link.

The PSA supports the features of the safety plan by Graham Field, as it is in accordance with PSA member views. This plan will now be made available by management to all staff at Mt Gambier.

The current plan with the improved security details was developed as a result of the voluntary conference in the SA Industrial Relations Commission, instigated by the PSA.

An issue for the PSA has been ensuring that DFC gives a strong commitment that the security arrangements agreed upon by PSA and DFC negotiators will be implemented. The PSA wanted assurances that there would then be no modifications prior to the building of the Centre. Any future modification (if required) would only be after full consultation between the parties.

DFC confirmed verbally at the meeting of 29/08/07 that it is prepared to give such a commitment and that a letter will be sent to the PSA to confirm this in writing.

Another meting will be convened shortly to discuss with DFC and the independent security advisor Stuart Arbon, a security risk analysis for the proposed Centre. The PSA will continue to insist on the safest and most secure working environment for its members in DFC agencies.
