PSA TO ENSURE DENTIST DEAL IS HONORED

The Public Service Association (PSA) has recently become aware of some alarming statements that have been issued by the Department of Health Chief Executive, Dr Tony Sherbon in a letter addressed to CNAHS Chief Executive, Dr Karleen Edwards, regarding the agreement reached between the parties in August 2007 to end the dental dispute.

In particular, the PSA is greatly concerned by the following statements within Dr Sherbon's correspondence:

The calculation of on-call, penalty and recall payments (where applicable) will be on base salary in accordance with the South Australian Government Wages Parity (Salaried) Enterprise Agreement 2006.

The attraction and retention allowance will be payable during periods of leave, although not for payment in lieu of leave on termination (contracts should be revised to contain this provision).”

Such statements are absolutely inconsistent with the agreement reached in finalisation of the recent dispute before the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia.

Clearly the offer put forward by the Department of Health was put upon the basis that it constituted an increase in base salaries. To suggest anything different is clearly incorrect.

The PSA has written to the Chief Executive seeking correction by close of business today. If no positive outcome is forthcoming, the PSA will immediately notify the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia to bring the dispute matter back on.

For any enquiries or comments please contact Acting Assistant Chief Industrial Officer Simon Johnson on spj@cpsu.asn.au or 8205 3294.
