PUBLIC SECTOR MANAGEMENT ACT CHANGES

Government has released its draft Public Sector Bill 2008 today.

The draft is available at http://www.premcab.sa.gov.au/psbill

It is proposed that this Bill will replace the current PSM Act 1995.

Government advises that this Bill will be out for comment for 2 months.

PSA will examine the Bill, which is expected to be received today, in detail to ensure matters of concern to PSA members are addressed, and suitable strategies are implemented in the event that they are not.

PSA will continue to demand job security, an independent appeals process and no loss of current conditions.

Media reports of greater powers to Chief Executives are of concern, and will be closely examined to ensure the concept of a single public sector continues.

Many members will be familiar with the difficulties created previously when Agencies had individual Enterprise Agreements with different pay and conditions, making mobility and redeployment across the public sector extremely difficult.

Further details will be set up on the PSA web site as soon as they become available.
