PMA DOMICILIARY CARE OUTSOURCING UPDATE

PSA General Secretary Jan McMahon, and Assistant General Secretary Nev Kitchin attended a meeting of Para Medical Aide (PMA) members at the PSA's Pirie St office on 23rd January 2008. The meeting was held to provide members with an update and an opportunity to discuss commitments given by DCSA management on the 21st of January. The commitments given by management are;

  • To identify opportunities where DCSA workers can undertake additional hours

  • Develop survey to identify workers availability

Members had reported being confronted by management in relation to attendance and topics discussed at the previous members' meeting. As a result two motions were unanimously passed:

The motions read:

  1. "That this meeting of PSA members reports the report back on the meeting
    with Domiciliary Care SA Management on Monday 21 January 2008.

    M
    embers welcome management commitments as they relate to the
    investigation of the provision of further hours for paramedical Aides as
    well as the conducting of an audit to identify where private companies
    are regularly performing work currently performed by Public Servants.

    Should no satisfactory response be provided by management at the next
    scheduled meeting with the PSA on Monday 4 February 2008 regarding these
    matters, a campaign will commence immediately to address outstanding
    fundamental concerns."

  2. "Members agree, should any member be confronted by management to determine their
    attendance at the above members meeting, PSA Officials are to be contacted immediately."

Member involvement during this campaign has been excellent. To achieve the best possible outcome to these issues it is essential to continue to support the campaign and fellow members. Many members, who are not employed as PMAs, have given their support and encouragement to all PMAs.
