WORKCOVER UPDATE

The second reading phase of the WorkCover debate in the Upper House ended just before 5am this morning, Friday 9 May.

The next sitting date is 3 June, when the Bill will go into Committee. At this point over 100 amendments by Mark Parnell (Greens) and Ann Bressington (Independent) will be moved and debated.

Thank you to all members who attended the Parliamentary sittings.

In the House of Assembly the positive role of Independent MPs Kris Hanna and Dr Bob Such are recognised.

The role of the Independents and Greens has been essential in allowing scrutiny of this legislation, and highlights the essential role of the Legislative Council.

MLCs John Darley (Independent), Mark Parnell (Greens) and Ann Bressington (Independent) did an extra-ordinary job in the Legislative Council debate, and the role of Independents and minor Parties will continue to be vital as the amendments are debated in June.
