MARJORIE JACKSON-NELSON HOSPITAL PRECINCT MASTER PLAN

On Wednesday 14 May 2008 PSA Industrial Officer Dolly Costello attended a briefing on the Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital Precinct Master Plan with Dr David Panter, Executive Director Statewide Service Strategy, Department of Health together with Damien Walker, Major Projects Director, Urban Planning Department of Health.

In 2007 the South Australian Government announced a commitment to invest $1.7 billion over the next decade to build a new hospital. The proposed hospital will replace the Royal Adelaide Hospital, (RAH) and will take over some of the more complex services from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

The move is the centre piece of South Australia's $2.2 billion Health Care Plan 2007-2016, which includes a system-wide reform reconfiguring the state's public Hospitals.

The South Australian Health Care Plan was driven by the 2004 Generational Health Review (GHR) which was the State Government's first step towards reforming the health system.

The Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital will care for more that 80, 000 inpatients per year and have 800 overnight and same -day beds, an ambulatory care centre, operating theatre suite, and all clinical and non-clinical support services.

The Hospital Precinct Master Plan provides a framework for guiding the development of the Hospital Precinct. In preparing the Hospital Precinct Master Plan, the Department of Health considered the following:

*Health and medical research and education.
*Statutory planning context.
*Environment.

*Project goals, and guiding principles and development objectives for the development of the site.
*The wider environmental impact.

*Site functions such as storm water, geotechnical and seismic, utility infrastructure, flight path, noise and emissions, and vibration.
*Cultural aspects (Aboriginal and European).
*The rail-yard site.
*Traffic and access.

*Urban form of North Terrace and the broader West End.

The PSA as a key stake holder will continue to be consulted on all aspects of the Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital, Development Project.
