PSA MEETS WITH MINISTER WEATHERILL
PUBLIC SECTOR PERFORMANCE COMMISSION

PSA senior officials met Minister Weatherill on Tuesday 2 September concerning the newly established Public Sector Performance Commission.  Acting Chief Executive of the Commission, Mr Lance Worrall, was present with the Minister.

PSA was represented by President Lindsay Oxlad, General Secretary Jan McMahon and Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher.

The purpose of the meeting was to clarify the roles and responsibilities of the Commission, and its relationship to other Agencies and the Commissioner for Public Employment.

The Minister advised that the Commission did not have an Industrial Relations role, but would focus upon Workforce Development across the whole Public Sector.

PSA was invited to identify issues, and to have input to the Commission agenda.  PSA raised current and anticipated skill shortages, together with recruitment and retention, as requiring significant attention, while highlighting examples of current practices by Agencies which deliver negative outcomes for members and for Government.

On the question of authority, the Minister advised that the implementation of proposals would be through the Commissioner for Public Employment and the Senior Management Council.
