GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES NEW DEPARTMENT

The Public Service Association was advised earlier today by The Honorable Paul Holloway, Minister for Urban Development and Planning, that a number of agencies currently working within Primary Industries and Resources SA will be transferred to Planning SA from next month to create a new Department of Planning and Local Government.

The agencies to be relocated within the new department comprise the Office for State/Local Government Relations, the Office for the Southern Suburbs, Local Government Grants Commission and the Outback Areas Community Development Trust.

Mr Ian Nightingale has been appointed as the new Chief Executive.

The Minister has reassured the PSA that there will be no job losses as a result of the announcement and that Government's decision is to encourage a collaborative and successful working arrangement between State and local Governments.

The PSA is in the process of fully examining the details relating to the formation of this new Department to enable a more comprehensive update as a matter of urgency.
