MEMBERS UNITED
Public Service Association (PSA) Families SA Worksite Representatives (Reps) unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday, 14th October 2008 at the monthly Families SA Worksite Representative meeting. The resolution was in support of the industrial action Crisis Response Unit members have undertaken and to ensure a high quality and appropriately funded service can be delivered to the most vulnerable people in our State. A chronic lack of resources is evident throughout Families SA District Centres and other specialised units. Members are fed up with the continued lack of funding to Families SA and are appalled at the demonstrated lack of understanding and funding shown by the Government! Members were united in their resolve and unanimously passed the following resolution: "This meeting of PSA Families SA Worksite Representatives: Recognises the lack of resources across Families SA which result in unmanageable workloads, serious child protection matters often involving babies being closed with no action taken, and high volumes of calls to the Child Abuse Report Line causing unreasonable long wait times or inability for callers to get through at all. Condemns the lack of government funding to do all the work the Department is mandated to perform. Recognises the inadequate recruitment and retention policies and programmes resulting in the Department's inability to retain experienced staff and attract new professionals. Does not support the use of short term renewable contracts with lack of permanency. Supports the actions taken by Crisis Response Unit members to address the above concerns. Endorses the holding of worksite meetings of members in Families SA worksites to hear reports on the above issues and to consider industrial action." PSA Industrial Officers will be visiting worksites over the next fortnight to meet with members. If members want to organise a specific day to meet or have any enquiries please contact your Worksite Representative or PSA Industrial Officers, Vanessa Ravenhill 8205 3251 or vr@cpsu.asn.au Ken Smith 8205 3231 or ks@cpsu.asn.au Jean-Guy Townsend on 8205 3233 or email jgt@cpsu.asn.au if you have any questions or queries.
