THIRD E.A. PAYRISE

The 2006 South Australian Government Wages Parity (Salaried) Enterprise Agreement (EA) included a new career structure for Professional Officers and Medical Scientists, which these employees translated into from the 1st full pay period on or after 1 October 2006. The salaries on the chart below include the 3 x 3.5% pay increases per annum over 3 years for all employees, and shows the top increments for each level only. Level 5 shows the third increment but there is a new fourth increment for PO's only which some specialists may progress to after assessment. Level 6 only applies to Medical Scientists. Scientific Excellence levels (not shown in the chart) for Medical Scientists are retained. The 3rd EA pay rise applies from the first completed full pay period on or after 1 October 2008.

EXPLANATION

The chart above shows the percentage increases for employees who were at the top increment for the final pay increase for the 2004 EA after 1 October 2005 (1st column). For base grade (PO1, MeS1) there is now an extra increment. PO1/MeS1 at the top increment in the 2004 EA translated to the 6th increment on 1 October 2006 and progressed to the 7th increment on 1 October 2007 (EA Schedule 1.21).

The Manager levels (MPS1, MPS2 & MPS3 {Professional Stream}and MMS1, MMS2 & MMS3 {Medical Scientists}), previously allocated to MS/PSO levels 3, 4 and 5 are removed in the new structure, and replaced by a management loading of $1,750 available to MeS/PO 3, 4 and 5 with management responsibilities. M1, M2 & M3 in the chart is the salary with a management loading applied against the top increment. Prior to 1/10/2006, to be eligible for a managerial classification the employee had to report directly to an Executive level or equivalent salary position. Many more employees, PO3 & MeS3 & above, would now be eligible for the Managerial Allowance. New Work Level Definitions were developed for each level applicable from 1/10/2006. The Managerial responsibilities are included in the Work Level Definitions at Appendix 6 for Professional Officers and Appendix 7 for Medical Scientists in the 2006 EA. The Work level Definitions in the SA Public Sector Salaried Employees (Interim) Award (SAPSSEI) no longer apply, nor do the Classifications PIDS previously used. The overview statement which includes the 55 occupational groups incorporated into the Professional Stream in schedule 3 of the SAPSSEI Award still applies.
