FAMILIES SA INDUSTRIAL ACTION UPDATE

Public Service Association (PSA) Worksite Representatives met on Tuesday 2nd December 2008 to discuss the Department for Families and Communities Chief Executives response to members demands and call for adequate funding for child protection.

Members unanimously passed the following resolution.

"This meeting of Families SA Worksite Representatives, acknowledge receipt of correspondence from Joslene Mazel, Chief Executive, Department for Families and Communities and recognises the following commitments:

  • additional positions will be recruited in APY lands, in accordance with the Mullighan Inquiry

  • additional 13 to 15 appointments in District Centres to work directly with Child Protection and Care Programs

  • filling of 13 PO1, 12 PO2 (6 in APY Lands) and 5 Aboriginal Family Practitioner positions

  • payment of overtime where staff are directed to work additional hours

  • additional motor vehicles

  • provision of additional mobile phones where need is identified

  • provision of additional computers where need is identified

  • consultation with the PSA on the draft document on Workload Measurement and Management

PSA Members call for ongoing meetings between PSA and DFC Executive to resolve outstanding issues including lifting of 4% budget savings, adequate resourcing in Child Protection and further improvements in filling existing temporary and ongoing vacancies.

Effective immediately, as a sign of good faith, PSA will defer the current industrial action whilst negotiations continue.

PSA will recommence and escalate Industrial Action if negotiations prove unsatisfactory.

A special Families SA Worksite Representatives meeting will be held on the 13th January 2009 to review these negotiations."
