MINISTER FOR THE ARTS FAILS TO ENSURE FUNDING FOR MUSEUM INFORMATION CENTRE

The Public Service Association (PSA) is aware that the South Australian Museum has a budget shortfall which has caused a delay in the establishment of the proposed I Zone Information Center and Services.
As a result of the budget constraints the Museum is left without a comprehensive information service for the public and its regular patrons until 2011, provided funds will then be made available. Also a number of popular public programs have had to be discontinued or restricted, including Indigenous Information Services and Indigenous Education Programs.
The PSA is disappointed such popular programs have been either discontinued or limited and whilst Indigenous culture remains a focal point for tourism and cultural awareness these popular services and programs go unfunded and their importance appear unrecognised in real terms.
The budget shortfall has also caused concerns for current SA Museum staff. The PSA will continue to fight to ensure that all affected employees are afforded ongoing and meaningful employment.
