UPDATE ON COMMUNITY YOUTH JUSTICE CLASSIFICATION ISSUE

The Public Service Association sought clarification from the Department for Families and Communities on the operationalisation of the proposal to maintain OPS4 Case Manager positions for a period of 5 years.

Correspondence has been received. An excerpt appears below

As noted in our letter of 22 December 2008, the Department for Families and Communities proposed to maintain the transitional position of OPS4 Case Management Services for a period of five years, after which time these positions would be integrated into the proposed professional officer structure and filled accordingly.

In the Community Youth Justice Program there are currently twenty OPS4 transitional positions within the structure. The implementation of the proposal put forward by the Department is straightforward. These twenty positions will be maintained for a period of five years and in the event of a vacancy arising from these positions, the Department will continue to fill these positions from the operational services stream. After this period of time all vacancies for case management roles will be recruited fro the professional officer classification stream”.

This proposal is applicable to Community Youth Justice in metropolitan areas only. The PSA anticipate receiving correspondence in the near future regarding the commencement of the consultative process for Community Youth Justice in the country region.
