SA PATHOLOGY INDUSTRIAL LIAISON FORUM
The Public Service Association regularly attends the SA Pathology (SAP) Industrial Liaison Forum (ILF). The purpose of the ILF is to provide a consultative forum between SA Pathology and the recognised health unions. Attendees on behalf of the PSA are: PSA Health Councillor - Sharin Prakash - (RAH) Site Paul D'Amico – LMHS Site Grant White – FMC Site Marco Di Girolamo – WCH Site Leann Hoppo – TQEH Site Sue Cummins - PSA Industrial Officer The following key agenda items were discussed: ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE UPDATE Management has met to consider a Vision & Mission statement for SAP. It will be taken to a group of approximately 50/60 staff across diverse areas of the organisation to ascertain who and what SAP would like to be in the future. It is anticipated that this will be in place by 1st July 2009. Organisational Charts (with the exception of Genetics) are all drafted and will be finalised within the next few months. The PSA has requested copies of these charts. It has been agreed that SA Pathology will be a stand alone unit and not part of Central Northern Adelaide Health Services. Management are working on the operational aspects of this decision. HR PRINCIPLES - The HR Principles have now been extended until 1st July 2009. The realignment is yet to be finalised. Management do not anticipate any staff changes. Management are looking at a strategic overview of SAP focusing on equipment, a corporate code of reporting, training and development of staff. BUDGET - It was reported that the budget was on target. SA Pathology is discussing with SA Health about quarantining its own expenditure budget/procurement processes from CNAHS. OTHER BUSINESS - Workcover - The PSA asked the question as to when the organisation deemed that an employee should be replaced when on workcover. Management responded by saying that each situation was unique and that it is dependent on the impact to the organisation. As such, a replacement could be warranted within a week. This will be explored further, as there are occasions when part time staff are expected to cover, on a long term basis, the absence of a full time staff member on workcover. Lab Info System – The introduction of the interim system 'Ultra' was raised and questions asked about what time frames were in place for the implementation of the new system. The response was that the money has been allocated to the system and the procurement process was in place. Once this has been finalised, it will take approximately 12 months to implement. It has been decided that the Transfusion and Surgical Pathology areas will not be involved in the transitional system 'Ultra'. Any issues members may wish to raise at future industrial forums should be sent to Industrial Officer Sue Cummins on email sc@cpsu.asn.au or telephone 8205 3260.
