PSA BUDGET BRIEF
The Treasurer, the Hon Kevin Foley, today delivered the State Budget.
(Peter Christopher, Chief Industrial Officer. Ph: 8205 3220PSA President Lindsay Oxlad and Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher attended the "Budget lock-up". The following is an initial assessment, pending detailed analysis of agency and program implications. Further Agency specific PSA Briefs will follow. Wages: The Government has proposed a ceiling of 2.5% per annum. Job cuts: In addition to the previously announced 1600 job losses, $750 million savings over 3 years from 2010/11 are to be identified by a Sustainable Budget Commission. Public Housing: While any increase is welcome, the provision for 1500 new dwellings over the next three years needs to be seen in the context that the SA Government has previously reduced its housing stock by thousands. Infrastructure: $11.4 billion has been allocated for infrastructure development, propped up by the Federal Government Nation-building Plan. The proposed new prisons and secure care centre at Murray Bridge and Cavan have been scrapped, with some expansion to occur at existing facilities instead. Members are encouraged to provide PSA details of the Budget impact upon the community in their specific work areas. pgc@cpsu.asn.au) 4 June 2009
