MINDA INCORPORATED INDUSTRIAL LIAISON COMMITTEE

PSA recently attended the Minda Incorporated Industrial Liaison Committee meeting.

The purpose of the ILC is to provide a consultative forum between Minda Incorporated Management and the recognised Unions “the PSA and LHMU”. The terms of reference and scope of Minda ILC are shown at clause 47 of Minda Incorporated Union Collective Agreement No.6. PSA was represented by PSA Worksite Representative Steve Mills and PSA Senior Industrial Officer Dolly Costello. The following key issues were discussed:

RESTRUCTURE RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

Minda management advised that the Board recently adopted principles of the United National Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities. As a result, Minda will be gradually reshaping the structure of residential services.

The changes are designed to provide more staff for front line direct support -

  • focus on the individual and the support required

  • provide new key roles to better support front line staff

  • provide more effectiveness and efficiencies in the use of resources

Minda's executive team will introduce these changes in a staged manner during the next twelve to eighteen months.

The reshaping of the staffing structure will be begin on campus at Brighton East in the Pat Kaufmann Centre and Bonython. Brighton West – Social Health will be reviewed for the optimum staffing model. At the completion of the reshaped structure of Brighton Campus, work will commence on reviewing the community accommodation model to establish what model will be most reflective of best practice for the community setting. Changes that may eventuate in the community accommodation models are not anticipated until May or June 2010.

Staff information sessions have been planned across Minda during August.

PSA members are encouraged to attend as many information sessions as possible. PSA as a key stake holder in Minda Incorporated, will be consulted during the restructure program.

MINDA EMPLOYEES/UNION COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT #7 2009

Minda management are currently in the process of seeking advice on a way forward to recommence negotiations with PSA and the LHMU on a new collective Agreement, following the non acceptance by staff of the Minda offer in June 2009.

Minda management have advised both PSA and LHMU of their intention to meet to discuss a new process for negotiations in September 2009.
