PUBLIC SECTOR UNDER ATTACK
Business SA has yet again issued another report calling for cuts to the public sector and for the removal of tenure.
This entrenched and regularly repeated statement by Business SA overlooks several key realities:
The public sector has already been cut dramatically and is at a historically low level
Job cuts are directly impacting on the South Australian community and families
Independent university research shows that public sector job cuts result in a direct loss of private sector jobs
Removal of tenure will make it even more difficult to retain and recruit necessary staff
Removal of tenure will prevent and independent public sector from providing 'frank and fearless' advice
Further details and comments are available at The Advertiser website
– Adelaide Now, including a poll today asking about support for
the Business SA recommendations. This can be found here.
Independent research by the University of Newcastle 'The Economic and
Social Impact of Staff Reductions in the South Australian Public
Sector' highlights the negative impact of job cuts and the positive
role Government can play in stimulating economic activity. This
report is available here.
