ALL SECURE CARE OPS MEMBERS TO GET NEW ALLOWANCE

The Public Service Association (PSA) has acted upon members' requests to ensure that the new Secure Care Allowance was applied to all OPS workers.

Through the 2010 Enterprise Bargaining negotiations it was understood and accepted by Public Sector Workforce Relations(PSWR) that the allowance would be payable to all OPS workers who had contact with residents of either centre.

The PSA formally notified the Department for Families and Communities(DFC) that the allowance was not being paid appropriately.

The PSA received formal correspondence from DFC which agreed with the position that all OPS workers that have contact with Secure Care residents are to be paid the allowance. DFC also confirmed it that the allowance would be payable from the 14 January 2010.

Payment of the new allowance should occur in the coming weeks.
