BIO MEDICAL ENGINEERING ARE ENTITLED TO A SAFE & HEALTHY WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Queen
Elizabeth Hospital Management have advised that it expects Bio Medical
Engineering members, currently located in the basement of the Maternity
Building, to remain in this work location whilst demolition of the
building is occurring above their heads.
This situation is even more bizarre considering that in the February
2010 edition of the staff newsletter, the "Pulse" the
General Manager TQEH stated:
“The TQEH landscape will continue to evolve over the next six
months, with demolition work to begin on the maternity building.
Contractors will begin putting up scaffolding in the middle of May and
the redevelopment team plans have all staff out of the building by the
end of the month.”
Such a decision is deplorable for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the
Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare issues are self
explanatory, and secondly, the precision like accuracy that these
members are required to perform in their roles on a daily basis can be
affected dramatically.
Member safety as well as the vital work these members perform as it
relates to patient care is paramount, and over-rides cost
considerations arising from relocation.
Member health and safety will not and can not be compromised. The PSA
will act accordingly to protect the interests of its members.
