NEW CENTRE CONSULTATION

Public Service Association (PSA) Vice President Peter Hewish, Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher and Industrial Officer Jean-Guy Townsend met with senior Representatives from the Department for Families and Communities (DFC) on 8 June 2010 to discuss the lack of consultation in relation to the planning for the new centre.

PSA members were alarmed to hear that specifications for the building of the new centre had already been determined without member input.

The Department addressed concerns by committing to a high level of consultation which included providing details of the numerous guidelines and legislative requirements that the new centre would need to meet. The commitment also included having the builder provide a mock room in which members can view and experience the proposed new facility.

Importantly, DFC committed to ensuring members would have the opportunity to genuinely contribute feedback at all stages of the building of the new centre.
