STATEWIDE PAEDIATRIC SPEECH PATHOLOGY SERVICE
As advised in previous PSA briefs, the Government has proposed that there should be a single statewide paediatric service.
This was to be formed under the auspices of the Department of Health
(DH), & Speech Pathologists would transfer from DECS to an
Incorporated Health Unit under the Health Act.
PSA has been involved in discussions with the Health Department's Union
Consultative Group which is made up of officers from DH & DECS to
provide information and formulate HR Principles to assist in this
process.
PSA has also formed a Speech Pathologist Industrial Committee to consult with and seek advice from during this process.
PSA last met with the Health Department's Union Consultative Group on
Wednesday 7 July where a number of concerns were tabled. To date
the PSA is disappointed at the lack of detail with which we have been
provided.
The PSA has continually asked questions so that we can clarify the service model which the Government intends to implement.
PSA understands that some of the work groups that have been formed,
have provided executive summaries and that a draft Service Model
has been developed although not yet released.
The PSA will continue to meet with our Industrial Committee. The next
meeting is scheduled in late July in preparation for the next meeting
with the Health Department's Union Consultative Group on the 4
August. The PSA will advise members of progress when we receive
further details.
It is important for members to be aware that the PSA has not agreed to
any proposals by the government and is insisting on full consultation
& advice before any recommendations can be made to PSA members.
