Information for CPSU members regarding NTEU Industrial Action

As has been advised earlier, CPSU has not applied for a ballot for members to take protected industrial action.  The contentious issues as mainly academic issues.  While we respect our colleagues stand It is the preference for CPSU negotiators to continue bargaining on the issues concerning professional staff.  Some aspects of the WorkChoices legislation have unfortunately been retained in the Fair Work Act.  This means that unless you received a ballot to vote you cannot participate in protected industrial action.

The following industrial action by NTEU members is scheduled for tomorrow:-

A four hour stoppage of work between 8am and 12 noon on Tuesday 10 August 2010, accompanied by a rally of staff outside Hawke building at 11am on that day;

CPSU members are required to either report for work or to have reasonable grounds for not attending.

CPSU advises members that you should work as outlined under your position description and within your regular hours of work, and not allow the possibility of accumulated work in light of one-off events such as industrial action to motivate you to work beyond that.  CPSU members should, therefore, not pick up any work of any unionist who is involved in industrial action.
