MEMBERS DEMAND A SAFE WORKPLACE
The Public Service Association (PSA) has had numerous Occupational, Health, Safety and Welfare (OHS&W) concerns raised by members at the new Domiciliary Care SA (Dom Care) work site at Oakden, on the grounds of the Strathmont Centre. Members have attempted to resolve all issues by raising them locally and through the consultative forums but the response from the Department for Families and Communities has been inadequate. The members at Oakden have needlessly suffered because DFC failed to find other suitable accommodation for the northern teams. DFC have been aware of the need to find suitable accommodation for these workers for years. Yet failed to act promptly or effectively. Now members consider that their safety is at risk. This is unacceptable. Members held a meeting on 26 August 2010 at the Oakden site and passed the following resolution unanimously; "We PSA members, employed by Dom Care SA at the Oakden site, strongly condemn DFC for their complete lack of commitment to ensure our safety at work by providing a safe working environment. The attached list of issues needs urgent resolution. DFC has until 2pm Thursday 2nd September 2010 to achieve this outcome. Failure to ensure members have a safe worksite by 2/9/10 will result in members considering to undertake an industrial campaign." Members are committed to achieving and maintaining their basic right of a safe place to work. PSA, OUR JOB IS LOOKING AFTER YOURS! 30 August 2010 |
