MP'S SUPERANNUATION INCREASE
In
recent days, it has been reported that South Australian Members of
Parliament elected during the past four years will increase their
superannuation entitlements from 9% to 15.4%, with the proposal
supported both by the Government and the Opposition.
It
is understood that such a rise has been "justified" as a
need to bring State MP's Superannuation entitlements in line with
their federal counterparts. Additionally, it has been reported that
such an increase is required to "attract" the best possible
future MPs.
The
PSA, on behalf of its members, has constantly raised the need to
provide improved conditions of employment to attract workers to the
Public Sector, and to retain current skilled workers from leaving to
progress their careers, either within the private sector or
interstate.
At
a time when the
State Budget is expected to announce job cuts that will result in
service cuts for South Australian families, Politicians are proposing
to reward themselves with a hefty increase in the superannuation
entitlement.
Key
Public Sector Unions are meeting in the next fortnight and this item
will be on the Agenda.
