LOCAL HOSPITAL NETWORKS BRIEFING

On Thursday 14 April 2011 the Public Service Association met with Mr David Swan the Chief Executive of SA Health to receive a briefing on the State Government's announcement to implement five (5) Local Health Networks (LHN's) across South Australia on 1 July 2011.

Staff Presentations are being held across SA Health. These LHN's comprise of single or groups of public hospitals and have a geographical or functional connection and are:

  • Children, Youth and Women's Local Health Network

  • Country Health SA Local Health Network

  • Central Metropolitan Local Health Network

  • Northern Metropolitan Local Health Network

  • Southern Metropolitan Local Health Network

The Adelaide Health Service will be dissolved by 1 July 2011 due to the creation of the three (3) metropolitan LHN's. Further consultation will commence shortly as to what this means for corporate areas of AHS and the statewide services eg SA Pathology, SA Dental Service(SADS), Breastscreen SA, Drug & Alcohol Services SA (DASSA). The PSA, as a key stake holder, will be involved in the consultation processes.

Mental Health Reform will be managed under SA Health with operational control under the 3 metropolitan LHN's.

The PSA has been assured that there will be no change to the employing authority due to setting up the LHN's as corporations, staff will be retaining their rights as state public sector employees.
