SA HEALTH DEPARMENTAL REVIEW UPDATE

On Wednesday 31 August 2011 the Public Service Association (PSA) met with Mr David Swan, Chief Executive of SA Health, in relation to the release of an amended Organisational Structure and Functions Chart developed as a result of the recent Review of the Department of Health.

It is a concern to the PSA that these changes are now occurring without the Report or it's Recommendations being released. In an earlier letter to the PSA dated 16 May 2011, there was an assurance given that once the Report was completed, unions and other stakeholders would have the opportunity to provide feedback on the report. This has not occurred as the Report has not been released.

Mr Swan advised the PSA that there was an urgent need for these new structural changes to occur in relation to the current Executive Structures with only minor changes to the roles, due to the creation of the Local Health Networks. It is understood that the realignment of functions is to encourage coordination and support across the divisions. The PSA is further concerned that there will be a need for structural changes across the eight reduced divisions of:

  • Policy, Governance & Executive Services

  • Public Health and Clinical Systems

  • Health Reform

  • E-Health Systems

  • Statewide Service Strategy

  • Mental Health and Substance Abuse

  • Workforce

  • Health System Performance
