TO HEAR PAY CLAIM
PSA appeared before Deputy President
Hampton of the SA Industrial Relations Commission on August 25.
Following the Government offer being rejected at ballot, the Government
application for an Award variation was called back on. PSA did not
object to the Commission hearing a case for an Award. PSA proposed to
the Commission that as the full case could take a considerable time
that an interim Award should be made to provide for salary increases
and increased paid maternity leave from October 2004.A Full Bench comprising the President, His Honor, Judge Jennings, Deputy President Bartel and Deputy President Hampton has been established and will hear PSA's application for an interim Award expeditiously. The Government advised that it was opposed to the making of an interim Award. Despite this provocative action by Government, PSA is not calling for an escalation of industrial action. The hearing for an interim Award provides the best short term option for genuine progress. Formal directions will be given at a later date by the Full Bench concerning the timing and procedures to be followed in the running of the full arbitration case. In parallel proceedings before the Industrial Relations Commission, Commissioner Doyle will continue to deal with the remainder of the PSA Enterprise Bargaining claim (Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher on 8205 3200 or email pgc@cpsu.asn.au) PSA
