AGREES TO INTERIM AWARD
The Full Bench of the
Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia, comprising of the
President, Senior Judge Jennings and Deputy Presidents Hampton and
Bartel, today agreed with PSA's application for an interim Award.
Members will recall that Government opposed the making of such an
interim Award.
The interim Award is to be effective from 1 October 2004 and will provide for a salary increase of 3.5% per annum for all employees. The Commission made no interim increase to the amount of paid maternity leave. Also, the Commission has not included a reference to the Memorandum of Understanding in the interim Award in light of previous Government undertakings that job security guarantees would be honoured. All existing conditions will be protected by the interim Award. A necessary part of the process now will be the rescission of the 2001 Parity Agreement, to ensure that it does not 'override' the 'better' Award. This will occur over coming weeks. The Commission will shortly issue directions concerning the process to make the final Award, which the Commission itself notes will be lengthy. PSA will now prepare a draft Award to reflect the decision today, for submission to the Commission, within the required period of 7 days. General Secretary, Jan McMahon said “while it is disappointing that it has not been possible to negotiate an Enterprise Agreement with Government, PSA is pleased that the Commission today has determined that an interim Award be made to provide a measure of relief to members while the full arbitration case is now run.” For enquiries contact Chief Industrial Officer, Peter Christopher on 8205 3200 or email: pgc@cpsu.asn.au PSA CAMPAIGNING FOR A BETTER DEAL 6 October 2004
