OH, TO BE A POLITICIAN

Whilst the State Government continually refused to negotiate a fair wages outcome for thousands of state public sector employees, State politicians will be receiving their next automatic pay increase as of 1 July 2005. The PSA has had to argue its case on behalf of members in front of the SA Industrial Relations Commission (SAIRC) and is awaiting their decision following a long, protracted dispute.

The automatic increase for backbench MP's is $4,380 a year.

Public Sector workers have only received an interim payment of 3.5% on 1/10/04 which was awarded by the SAIRC despite the Government arguing against it.

The PSA calls upon the State Government to value the contributions made by all public sector workers.
