Agencies have a responsibility to their staff to provide safe and healthy work environments.

This responsibility is recognised in the SA Government (Public Sector Salaried Employees) Salaries Interim Award 2004, which at Schedule 2, S2.4.3 states;

In establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, an agency will not require an employee to have an unreasonable workload in the ordinary discharge of the employee's duties.”

Members experiencing workload concerns should formally advise their managers of their concerns, and require them to address the issue. Should an employer not address the workload concerns, they may be in breach of the Award.

Any such cases should be raised with the Public Service Association.
