DEPARTMENT FOR FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES SECURITY OUTCOME

PSA met with Department for Families & Communities Chief Executive, Sue Vardon today in respect to security issues. The PSA was represented by Assistant General Secretary, Nev Kitchin and the Chair of the Worksite Representatives Committee, Lesley Burford.

The meeting arose from concerns over a proposal to revise security arrangements within Riverside Building and potentially DFC more generally. A PSA membership meeting on Monday 7^th November 2005 identified a significant number of issues which were discussed in detail today. The 7^th November meeting was attended by PSA General Secretary, Jan McMahon and Assistant General Secretary, Nev Kitchin. At that meeting members overwhelmingly rejected the Department's first draft proposal.

The outcome of today's meeting was very positive with PSA achieving the following;

• An undertaking from the Chief Executive that a risk analysis review would be undertaken in respect to Riverside Building and that existing security arrangements would continue during that review.

• Advice from the Chief Executive that there was currently no intention of more broadly changing security arrangements across DFC.

• Advice from the Chief Executive that the draft proposal relates to level 2 Riverside only.

• A revised draft for consultation was presented at the meeting.

Today's meeting reflects a very positive outcome for members. Thank you to those members who assisted by attending Monday's meeting and who have provided relevant information. PSA will be involved in the risk analysis review to be undertaken shortly and a report back to members will follow.
