PSA
MEETS WITH
HEALTH CHIEF EXECUTIVE
PSA
representatives met with Jim Birch, and Rod Bishop, Executive
Director, Human Resources on Friday 13th January
2006. The
following issues were discussed:-
-
IMPLICATIONS
FOR HEALTH OF THE FEDERAL INDUSTRIAL CHANGES
There
was some discussion regarding the DOH response to the Federal
industrial changes. The State Government's position is clear. They will
be challenging the legislation in the High Court. In the meantime the
Chief Executive will be advising Department of Health management that
current industrial arrangements will continue.
-
COUNTRY
GOVERNANCE
The
Chief Executive discussed the announcement by the Minister to abolish 7
Regional Boards and create a single Regional Board. This will impact on
approximately 240 staff. No decisions have been made at this point in
relation to the final structure. It is recognised that there will be
significant change for many employees. This initiative has not been
implemented as a cost cutting exercise. The total
allocation for Country Governance will be maintained.
-
FILLING
VACANT POSITIONS
The guarantee on the
filling of vacancies has been lifted as of the 31st
December
2005. The Divisions have almost completed their re-organisation process
and it was considered important at this time to fill the vacancies that
currently exist in Central Office.
-
REDEPLOYEES
Department
of Health have reduced the number of redeployees significantly over the
past year. The PSA continue to monitor redeployees to ensure that they
are quickly placed in on-going permanent employment. It is an essential
part of the job security policy that redeployees are
treated
fairly.
