FAMILY
FRIENDLY
LEAVE FOR WORKERS
Congratulations
to SA Unions for the work they have done for workers in the private
sector in South Australia through the Industrial Relations Commission
of SA in the Family Leave test case.
PSA
has worked hard over the years to improve family friendly
conditions. As a result of the work undertaken by the PSA
public sector employees have access to:-
1. Maternity
leave for up to 2 years. This includes 12 weeks PAID
leave.
2. Unpaid
parental leave for 12 months - This can be taken any time up until
the child starts school.
3. The
right to return from maternity leave to work on a part-time
basis.
(Not simply to request part- time work.)
4. 15
days paid special leave per year.
5. 12
days paid sick leave per year accumulative.
6. Carer's
leave - 5 days from your sick leave per annum, additional paid leave
can be accessed from the paid special leave entitlements. 3 days
caring for sick child can be taken prior to carer's leave.
7. Voluntary
flexible working arrangements this includes:-
* Flexi
time * Working from home * Part time
employment
*
Compressed
weeks - For instance working longer hours 4 days
per week
to have a
regular day off each week.
*
Purchased
leave - This provision allows you to take
additional
leave per
year
without pay, but have your
salary averaged out over
the full year. For
instance,
working 48 weeks per year but
the 48 weeks pay spread over 52
weeks. This arrangement gives
you 8 weeks leave per year, almost all the
school holidays.
7. Recreation
leave - This accrues on a monthly basis and therefore you can apply
for recreation leave at any time. Also the Chief Executive
has
the delegation to approve recreation leave in advance in special
circumstances.
8. PSA
has achieved assurances from the State Government that there will be
no forced redundancies. This provides security for families.
