ODPP ORGANISATIONAL REVIEW & WORKLOADS

The second meeting of the ODPP Consultative Review Committee met on Monday 15th May 2006. PSA Industrial Officer Josie Barbaro attended on behalf of PSA members.

As the Review Report and Recommendations are still yet to be released, the main agenda item was the terms of reference for the Committee. There have been some minor changes to the document which will then be confirmed by the committee members. For a copy please see one of your staff representatives or contact the PSA.

Importantly, the terms of reference establish a framework for the consultation and define the role of committee members.

Earlier, the PSA had the opportunity to meet with the DPP Stephen Pallaras, ODPP Managers and the acting Chief Executive of the Attorney General's Department Jerome Macguire. PSA Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher also attended this meeting. The main focus of the meeting was to discuss the high workloads of ODPP staff and the impact on staff, retention levels, and service delivery. Whilst waiting on the outcomes of the Review to determine how it may affect resource levels of the ODPP, it is important to consider this in the context of the Treasurer's recent announcement about agencies identifying areas for budget savings.

The PSA is preparing submissions to Government regarding this Review, and is obviously concerned about the welfare of members in the ODPP given the current resource problems. Staff concerns in relation to this can be discussed confidentially with the PSA, and in addition a members meeting will be called soon to discuss workloads.
