PSA MEETS WITH MINISTER WEATHERILLOn 26 June, PSA President Lindsay Oxlad and General Secretary Jan McMahon met with the Hon. Jay Weatherill, Minister Assisting the Premier for Cabinet Business and Public Sector Management. The Minister advised that the State Government has established a new Government Reform Commission, comprising former Queensland Premier Wayne Goss as the Chair, former Senior Adviser to British Prime Minister Blair, Nick Rowley and current Agency Chief Executives Sue Vardon and Warren McCann. The Minister outlined to the PSA the Commission's role which will be to review the Public Sector Management Act (1995) and to develop strategies to address administrative barriers and the on-going management and development of the public sector workforce. The Minister categorically stated job security is guaranteed in the public sector, and there will be no job cuts or service cuts. Additionally, the Minister re-emphasised pre election promises made by the Premier and Treasurer relating to the public sector. Details on how the Commission will function are still being finalised. The PSA will ensure any reviews, including any potential changes to the Public Sector Management Act (1995) do not erode terms and conditions of employment or compromise service delivery. The PSA has continually reinforced to the State Government the importance of creating a more flexible public sector to address issues of recruitment and retention. It is now incumbent upon the Government Reform Commission to develop recommendations specific to these important matters. For
