1 September 2010 The PSA met with Hospital Management on Monday 30th August regarding outsourcing of the Staff Counselling Service. DISABILITY SERVICE COORDINATION UPDATE 1 September 2010 The PSA has recently been advised of the Staff Equalisation Project. MP'S SUPERANNUATION INCREASE 30 August 2010 In recent days, it has been reported that South Australian Members of Parliament elected during the past four years will increase their superannuation entitlements from 9% to 15.4%, with the proposal supported both by the Government and the Opposition. MEMBERS DEMAND A SAFE WORK PLACE 30 August 2010 The PSA has had numerous Occupational, Health, Safety and Welfare concerns raised by members at the new Domiciliary Care SA work site at Oakden, on the grounds of the Strathmont Centre. JOB CUTS & SERVICE REDUCTION 26 August 2010 PSA Worksite Representatives met yesterday to discuss the State Government's upcoming State Budget and concerns regarding the outcome of the Sustainable Budget Commission. PSA MEETING WITH HEALTH CHIEF EXECUTIVE 25 August 2010 On Wednesday 18 August 2010 PSA Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher and Senior Industrial Officer Sue Cummins met with Dr Tony Sherbon, Health Chief Executive, and Mr Etienne Scheepers, Executive Director of Workforce Development of SA Health. CLOSURE OF STAFF COUNSELLING SERVICE 20 August 2010 The PSA has written to the Chief Executive of the Children Youth and Women's Health Service after becoming aware that the in housed Staff Counselling Service will will be closed. SEVERE CUTS, SAYS TREASURER 19 August 2010 In an ABC radio interview this morning, Treasurer Foley has restated his intention to make severe staffing cuts in the forthcoming State Budget. NO, TREASURER !!!!! 16 August 2010 In response to a Business SA proposal to remove public sector tenure, Treasurer Kevin Foley said on tv's Channel 9 on Friday, 13 August 2010 "Well, let's just see." 4,000 HEALTH JOBS TO GO 9 August 2010 Health Chief Executive Dr Tony Sherbon today advised the Budget and Finance Committee of Parliament that the Sustainable Budget Commission is seeking $450 million in savings from the Department of Health. ENSURING QUALITY USE OF MEDICINES IN COUNTRY HEALTH SA 9 August 2010 The PSA has now received the draft Ensuring Quality Use of Medicines in CHSA Recommendation Report. ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONAL PEER ASSESSMENT PROCESS UPDATE 9 August 2010 The PSA has sent correspondence to the Chief Executive Department for Families and Communities expressing concern at the delay in the development of the appropriate guidelines for Allied Health Professionals employed in the department to apply for peer assessment. www.doesntaddup.com.au 6 August 2010 PSA General Secretary today launched a grassroots community campaign targeting the State Government's plans to slash $750 million from Public Sector jobs and services in the upcoming September Budget. DECS LEGISLATION REFORM 2 August 2010 The PSA recently attended a meeting about DECS Legislation reform. INDUSTRIAL ACTION PROTOCOL FOR CPSU MEMBERS IN UNIVERSITY OF S A 2 August 2010 Members of the academics' union, the NTEU, have commenced industrial action from 2 August 2010. DISPUTE IN ADOPTIONS & FAMILY INFORMATION SERVICES & POST CARE SERVICES 28 July 2010 Representatives of the PSA and Department for Families and Communities have met in accordance with the Grievance and Dispute Avoidance Procedures in the SA Government Wages Parity (salaried) Enterprise Agreement 2010. DO IT FOR LIFE PROGRAM - DISPUTE UPDATE 3 22 July 2010 On Wednesday 21 July 2010, the PSA met with SA Health in relation to the dispute lodged by the PSA on 30 June 2010 regarding the Agency's failure to consult regarding the slashing of jobs within the Do it for Life Lifestyle Risk Factor Modification Program. PROFESSIONAL INDEMNITY INSURANCE 22 July 2010 It has come to the attention of the PSA that another Union has put out a publication which suggests that professionals working in the public sector should have their own Professional Indemnity Insurance. This is not correct. BREAST SCREEN SERVICE CUTS 21 July 2010 On Tuesday 20 July 2010, it was reported on Adelaide media that the Government may be going to cut breast screen services in order to fund the new digital breast screening technology. CORRECTIONS OFFENDER RISK NEEDS INVENTORY ASSESSMENT TOOL 16 July 2010 Members met on Thursday 15 July to work to address the ongoing issues regarding the Offender Risk Needs Inventory (ORNI-R) assessment tool. SA DENTAL SERVICE INDUSTRIAL LIAISON FORUM 16 July 2010 The PSA attends bi-monthly meetings with SA Dental Service Management and was represented by PSA Industrial Officer Margie Lindley at the meeting of Tuesday 22nd June 2010. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS - TIME OFF IN LIEU AND FLEXITIME 13 July 2010 The new 2010 Parity Enterprise Agreement has improved conditions for Flexi time, includes the 2006 Enterprise Agreement improvements for TOIL, increased the classification levels at which overtime must be paid, increased night shift penalty and a penalty for working through a lunch break. STATEWIDE PAEDIATRIC SPEECH PATHOLOGY SERVICE 13 July 2010 The Government has proposed that there should be a single statewide paediatric service. DISPUTE OVER DISBANDING OF ADOPTIONS AND FAMILY INFORMATION SERVICES AND POST CARE SERVICES 8 July 2010 The PSA has been notified by Department of Families and Communities that the Families SA Adoption and Family Information Services and Post Care Services will be restructured and disbanded. SAFEWORK SA CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE MEETING JUNE 2010 5 July 2010 The PSA/SWSA Consultative meeting 16 June 2010 went for almost 4 hours. "DO IT FOR LIFE" PROGRAM - DISPUTE UPDATE 2 5 July 2010 On Monday 5 July 2010 the PSA met with SA Health in relation to the dispute lodged by the PSA over the agency's failure to consult in the funding and job cuts to the "Do it for Life" program. SHARED SERVICES REPORT BACK 2 July 2010 The voluntary conference at the Industrial Relations Commission on 28 June 2010 went for almost 5 hours. "DO IT FOR LIFE" PROGRAM SLASHED 1 July 2010 The PSA has received correspondence from the Department of Health advising of the "redirection'" of funds that are currently allocated to the "Do it for Life" Lifestyle Risk Factor Modification Program. PSA MEETS MINISTER HOLLOWAY 28 June 2010 Senior PSA officials met with the Minister Assisting the Premier on Public Sector Management, Hon Paul Holloway on Friday 25 June 2010. PAID PARENTAL LEAVE SCHEME 23 June 2010 The Rudd Government's Paid Parental Leave Scheme has now been passed by the Senate. PROPOSED SA HEALTH CREDENTIALING ALLIED & SCIENTIFIC HEALTH PROFESSIONAL POLICY 21 June 2010 The PSA recently received an update on the progress of the proposed Credentialing of Allied and Scientific Health Professionals across SA Health. PUBLIC SECTOR CUTS NOT NEEDED 16 June 2010 The State Government, through the Sustainable Budget Commission, can no longer justify slashing $750 million from the public sector. NEW YOUTH CENTRE CONSULTATION 11 June 2010 PSA Vice President Peter Hewish, Chief Industrial Officer Peter Christopher and Industrial Officer Jean-Guy Townsend met with senior representatives from the Department for Families and Communities to discuss the lack of consultation in relation to planing for the new centre. ADELAIDE HEALTH SERVICE - UPDATE No. 2 9 June 2010 A formal consultation document has now been released. FAMILIES SA HR PROJECT INDUSTRIAL UPDATE 8 June 2010 PSA Families SA Worksite Representatives met on Tuesday 1 June and were provided with a report from Senior Industrial Officer Ian Peak about the meeting he attended on Friday 28 May with Department for Families and Communities (DFC) representatives to receive information about the "Families SA HR Project". CORRECTIONS REVIEW OF BUSINESS UNITS 1 June 2010 The PSA has been formally advised by the Department for Correctional Services of their intention to undertake a review of its administrative functions across all business units. FAMILIES SA PEER ASSESSMENT PROCESS 1 June 2010 The PSA successfully negotiated for there to be a process for members employed in the Allied Health Professional Stream to progress from AHP 1 to AHP 2. ADELAIDE HEALTH SERVICE - UPDATE NO. 1 1 June 2010 SA Health is reforming the administration of the public health system MINDA ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT 1 June 2010 PSA members would be aware that the Enterprise Agreement process is currently being dealt with through a consultative process in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission. HEALTH ICT CENTRALISATION UPDATE 27 May 2010 The PSA Industrial Officer Margie Lindley attended the ICT Centralisation Union Consultative Committee Meeting held on Tuesday 25th May 2010. MENTAL HEALTH PRISONERS CAUSING STRESS ON SA PRISON SYSTEM 27 May 2010 Increasingly Correctional Services Prison Officers are being forced to supervise prisoners who should be placed in facilities designed and staffed suitably to address mental health issues and needs. CORRECTIONAL SERVICES PREPARED TO COMPROMISE STANDARDS 27 May 2010 The PSA has been actively involved in what the Department for Correctional Services considers a consultative process for the commissioning and resourcing of the new 36 Bed Low Security Unit at Pt Lincoln Prison. BIO MEDICAL ENGINEERING STAFF SECURE A SAFE AND HEALTHY WORK ENVIRONMENT 27 May 2010 The Bio Medical Engineering Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) will now not be required to work in a building while it is being demolished. REDESIGN OF THE EMERGENCY SURGICAL PATHWAY ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL 24 May 2010 The PSA has received notification from the Royal Adelaide Hospital that the Emergency Surgical Pathway Redesign has commenced and appropriate consultation processes will continue to occur as this project progresses. EXPOSURE TO ASBESTOS 19 May 2010 PSA is investigating reports that members at Flinders Medical Centre may have been accidentally exposed to friable asbestos during the removal of a drain. A WIN FOR SA DENTAL SERVICE MEMBERS 19 May 2010 The Public Service Association (PSA) has, for some time, been concerned that inappropriate record keeping and non payment of overtime has been occurring within SA Dental Service. BIO MEDICAL ENGINEERING ARE ENTITLED TO A SAFE & HEALTHY WORKING ENVIRONMENT 12 May 2010 Queen Elizabeth Hospital management have advised that it expects Bio Mechanical Engineering members, currently located in the basement of the Maternity Building, to remain in this work location whilst demolition of the building is occurring above their heads. PUBLIC SECTOR CUTS NOT NEEDED, AS SA GEARS UP FOR GST WINDFALL 12 May 2010 The PSA says the State Government has no justifiable reason to continue with its plans to slash $750 million from the public sector. FORESTRYSA - EB BALLOT 11 May 2010 The proposed Enterprise Agreement was emphatically rejected in that of the 154 staff who voted, only 43 voted "YES" while 111 voted "NO". DTEI ENGINEERS REMUNERATION CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE 7 May 2010 DTEI has established the Committee to ensure that all affected parties will be consulted and have the opportunity to make relevant submissions to be considered by the Review. NAPLAN TESTS 5 May 2010 On 12th April the AEU Federal Executive imposed a moratorium on the national NAPLAN tests, based on the view that it would be inappropriate to use the results of the test to publicly brand students and schools as failures in “league tables”. MINDA INCORPORATED PROPOSED ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT No. 7 9 April 2010 PSA representatives have been in joint negotiations with both the LHMU and Minda Incorporated since 2008. CHRISTIES BEACH POLICE STATION - HIGH WORKLOADS 1 April 2010 On Tuesday 30 March members once again implemented industrial strategies to assist with their unreasonable workloads. MAGILL MEMBERS TO TAKE ACTION 29 March 2010 PSA members from Magill Youth Training Centre held a stop work meeting on 22 March 2010 at 3pm on the grass outside the Centre. ANNA STEWART MEMORIAL PROJECT 19 March 2010 The Anna Stewart Memorial Project has been developed to pay tribute to the life and work of Anna Stewart who worked passionately and tirelessly to involve women directly in deciding on principles and priorities to put before unions and government. DISABILITY SA OHSW CONCERNS 12 March 2010 The PSA referred the concerns of Disability SA Service Coordinators to the Industrial Relations Commission. MINDA ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT - 2010 VOTING PROCESS BEGINS. 11 March 2010 PSA members can access a full copy of the Enterprise Agreement No. 7 (EA 7) and is available to members at their workplace and via the Minda Portal for those members with computer access. LOTTERIES ENTERPRISE BARGAINING 9 March 2010 The SA Lotteries Single Bargaining Centerer met on the 25th of February, 2nd of March and 5th of March 2010. WIN FOR PSA MEMBERS IN FLINDERS MEDICAL CENTRE 3 March 2010 PSA members in Flinders Medical Centre, Medical Records achieved a significant win on Monday after placing bans on working with overcrowded and unsafe medical records and storage areas. PORT LINCOLN PRISON - INCREASE CAPACITY 3 March 2010 The PSA met with Department for Correctional services management in February as part of Local Consultation in regard to the commissioning of the new 36 Bed unit at Port Lincoln Prison. JOB CREATION 2 March 2010 The PSA welcomes the Premier's announcement that he proposes to create 100,000 jobs. YATALA LABOUR PRISON - PSA ENSURES GENUINE CONSULTATION 2 March 2010 The PSA met with members at Yatal Labour Prison to finalise the consultative process to commence Video conferencing at YLP. FAMILIES SA CRISIS RESPONSE UNIT INDUSTRIAL ACTION 2 March 2010 PSA members from Crisis Response Unit met on Thursday 24 February to review the proposal by Department for Families and Communities (DFC) management representatives at meetings held on 11 and 18 February 2010. SURVEY SHOWS IMPACT OF JOB CUTS 12 February 2010 The PSA commissioned independent research from the University of Sydney's Workplace Research Centre to identify the impact of Government job cuts. The meeting was chaired by the project manager while Executive and HR representatives were also present. INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS COMMISSION CERTIFIES "PARITY" AGREEMENT 14 January 2010 The Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia today certified the "Parity" Enterprise Agreement.
